Savage Worlds character creation: Salty

20 March 2010

I decided to try out the Savage Worlds tabletop RPG system, and I created a character for a fantasy setting I'm working on:

"Salty", a sailor

Agility d10, Smarts d6, Spirit d4, Strength d6, Vigor d4
Human, Novice, Pace 6, Parry 4, Charisma 0, Toughness 4
Edges: Ace, +$500
Hinderance: Ugly

Skills: Boating d10, Climbing d6, Fighting d4, Knowledge (Geography) d4, Notice d4, Repair d6, Survival d6, Swimming d6

Equipment: Crossbow, Dagger, Rowboat

It's a world where low magic meets the Early Renaissance, where earth magics and petards vie for military supremacy.

I found character creation to be pretty easy. It took me about 15 minutes to re-read the rules and come up with Salty. I do wish the book came with a character creation sample session narrative as some games do, so that I could verify I understood the rules correctly. I'm also not sure how reasonable he is. I need to run him through an encounter or two.
