Who is the Neon Tapir?
In brief:
Father of three, son, brother. Lifelong learner, web software developer, scrum master, taekwon-do black belt, agile evangelist, cook. Enjoyer of science fiction, writer, gamer, photographer, hiker, sketcher, demo rabbit, polyglot, geocacher. Native Denverite, erstwhile Portlander. Bachelor’s in math gathers dust.
All right, I’ll be a little more verbose.
I write computer programs for a living. I employ C#, ASP.NET, Ruby, and SQL to make good things happen. I thrive in an agile environment, and catalyzed its adoption at my present employer.
I have a first degree black belt (I Dan) with the United States Taekwon-Do Federation. My kids and I train twice weekly.
I’ve got a German pen-pal, and have studied several languages: Mandarin Chinese, French, Spanish, Esperanto, to name a few. Maybe it’s my mathematics bent, but I’m continually fascinated by the whole idea that I can smack some blocks with my fingers, those hammerings become glyphs, and you, who might be half a world away, can discover something about what I’m thinking. Or, that I can whisper and be heard a thousand miles away. Language is so powerful, and technology just magnifies its effect a thousandfold. A googlefold.
I have been a gamemaster for over 25 years, though I’ve been dormant as of late. My last big campaign was set in the Firefly/Serenity universe, and it used Spirit of the Century for its game rules. That gaming group that consisted of a dozen folks, some of which I’ve known for a long time and others I only know through gaming. However, with my wife’s budding acting career and my son’s entry into high school marching band, I reduced my outside activities.
I play many board and card games, too. At least once a year, I’m a demo rabbit for Looney Labs games at local conventions.
